Fuel Subsidy Removal Documentary “Fueling Poverty”

Jan 1st this year the federal government of Nigeria make an huge step in the diversification of the down streaming sector of Nigeria oil and gas with the removal of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) petrol.
While millions of Nigeria come to the street to reject the removal of the fuel subsidy Nigeria which the federal government first put to 140 Naira per liter but through the revolution of Nigeria on the street and through the social media later come to 97 Naira per liter.

But here his an educative documentary for the 2012 removal of fuel subsidy and subsidy proposal which was title “Fueling Poverty” was directed by Ishaya Bako .The documentary will educative Nigeria at home and abroad about oil subsidy scam and the ensuing probe. The film take from government and the civil socityr to the subsidy scam between “Farouk Lawan V Femi Otedola” scandal in the year 2012. while the likes of emi Falana; musician and activist, Seun Kuti, social entrepreneur – Japheth Omojuwa, former minister to the FCT, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and other other social commentators.

According to the press release sent by the producers of the documentary:
“The oil subsidy placed on petroleum products by the Nigerian government was meant to provide a much-needed relief on the cost of living in one of the most complicated countries in the world. However after a probe by the House of Representatives, it was revealed that about seven billion dollars was stolen from the Nigerian people in one year from the same program that was meant to provide relief for them. It is quite possibly one of the most daring frauds in history.”

 The film is funded by the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA).
